Happy 89th Birthday Gramps!

We had a fun time today celebrating Gramps' birthday. Erika and the girls decorated the whole dining area with tons of balloons! Debbie Beckham, Darrel, Dave-O and Bill came.

Gramps didn't eat too much lunch (I think he was just wanting the cake!). Miriam came in with a bunch of balloons singing "Happy Birthday Uncle Buddy"! We all sang "Happy Birthday" and Gramps blew out the candles.

Today, Maritia (pronounced "Marisha") was there. She is just there during the day. She is very coherent, sweet and always smiling.

You can see a picture of Goldie talking to Gramps...she asked how old Gramps was. When I told her, "He's 89!", she replied, "Is that all?" She is 95!!

Gramps moved over to his recliner and opened a few gifts and cards. Bill brought a card from Gramps' old Thursday morning prayer group in Tyler. I read off most of the names and he seemed to recognize most of them.

Afterwards, I went over to the second house to see Hazel. She fell on Sunday and broke her arm (or she told me her shoulder). She was lying in bed in her room watching TV when I got over there. I sat and talked with her for about an hour. She really likes having company! Go over and see her if you get a chance! I think she is going to be all right. I'm not sure if she will require surgery or what. Right now she has her arm in a sling strapped to her body to keep it stable.

Hope you all have a great weekend! Stay safe!

Gramps' Birthday is Friday!

A note from Dave-O...
I am off on Friday the 29th and I am going to get a birthday cake and take to Gramp's house at 12 noon when they eat lunch. If you can come that would great. I realize that some have to work and if you want to do something on the weekend that would be great also.

August 21 Visit

Gramps was eating his dessert when we arrived today. I asked him how lunch was and he said he had just had breakfast! I said "You don't eat ice cream for breakfast!" and he replied..."We do here!".

Anyway, dad (Dave-0) was there and I brought my three kids plus an extra. Kylie is Kelsey's best friend who had slept over. They have matching hair that they did all by themselves! Gramps was really with it today. We introduced Kylie to him (she even gave him a hug), and then later, he saw her again and recognized she was not a regular member of the family and asked who she was again. I thought that was a pretty keen observation considering that Kelsey and Kylie looked so much alike today.

We talked about Goldie who fainted on Saturday and ended up in the hospital with stitches in her head. She seemed OK today. Gramps remembered that she had had a big fall.

We talked about school starting and what grades the kids were going into. I talked about our gathering at Bill and Gayle's and commented on how big everyone was getting and that Carly and Hunter were already in high school!

He remembered that Joy had called that morning after I mentioned her and the tropical storm that is currently pounding Jacksonville. He said that Joy had mentioned the storm to him (HOPE ALL IS OK WITH YOU ALL IN FLORIDA!).

He moved to his chair and Mason played a few tunes on the piano for Gramps, Goldie and Mildred. Goldie seems to really enjoy our visits and she loves to hear Mason play.

Here are the pictures I took today!

Gramps wanted a picture with Erika. He seems to really like her. She is very sweet.

Next week I plan to go and see Gramps and possible go to the second house to visit with Hazel since the kids won't be with me. Send me any updates and I'll post them on the blog. Even if you don't have pictures, just send me an email.

Joy and Curtis Visit Gramps

Joy and Curtis came from Florida to Texas to see Gramps for the first time in his new home. Here are a few pics taken by Joy (I couldn't pick just one, so I included them all).

Gramps as Roy Orbison?

Gramps made a trip to the dentist this morning to have them examine his chipped tooth. Dave-O and Darrel took him. Darrel snapped this photo of Gramps sitting in the chair. They put some sunglasses on him to shield his eyes from the light. Darrel said that Gramps looks like Roy Orbison! I kinda think so too!

Once back at the house (the dentist was thankfully just across the street!), we got there and found Gramps all comfy in his recliner. We chatted a while and he dozed off and on. Erica is the helper in his house now. Areli is back at the second house (Gramps' old house). Mason played piano for Gramps, Dad, Darrel and two of the ladies living there, Mildred (left) and Goldie (right).

I had a nice chat with Goldie and found out she is from Florida (Tampa area). She can't hear or see very well, but she's very coherent and nice to talk to.

Afterwards, we went up to the second house to see Areli and Hazel. I gave Areli a picture of her and Gramps that I had taken. Hazel was happy to see me and we talked for a while. She said she had been down to the first house to have lunch or dinner with Gramps on Sunday.

We are all looking forward to Joy and Curtis coming this Saturday from Florida! Hope to see you all soon!
