I went by after work and gramps was sitting looking out the back yard all bright eyed. There is a new resident. Her name is Hazel. She is same age as gramps-birthday is first part of Sept. They were in the middle of admitting her and talking with her family. She is a talker...very alert. Frank was having a bad moment-getting pretty loud but then sort of settled down and then would start up again. It sort of got on my nerves but not gramps. Gramps told me that Gerry lady was dingy! Very perceptive I must say. Later Dave-O
I will not be able to go tomorrow-I have to work 9:30-8:00.

More Tuesday Visit
Here are the pictures I took today. Gramps ate a good lunch. I baked some cookies and everyone ate cookies and ice cream for dessert. He talked with me alot after lunch. He sat on one of the chairs in the sun room while Davey and I worked a puzzle on the floor. He was asking lots of questions about everyone that what there, who they work for and where they sleep. He asked about Areli's baby, Allison. He asked me about my church and who the pastor was. And of course, when I left, he asked when I was coming back and when Dad was coming back. Nurse Susan was there and the Nurse Practitioner, Lydia, was also there today. They took some blood from him which he did fine with. He also took a shower this morning. Someone named Daniel helped him (he was not there when I was there). He also got a haircut!Overall, it was a great visit. He's doing so well!

Darrel emailed me this picture from his phone (great idea!) when he,Karen, his mom and the Dodsons came for a visit. Gramps' teeth are out, so his face looks smaller, but he was happy to see Sam! Later, I told him that I bet that Sam misses him and he said that he sure misses him, too. Thanks for the pic Darrel!

Gramps continues to do well. Today Diane (Sugee) and Wayne Wright came by for a visit. Thats Sissy and Lindsay's daughter -my cousin. They live less than a mile from gramps. She is going to come back and bring her dog.
Tomorrow Sam the dog is coming to see gramps along with Sherryn, Darrel and Mr and Mrs Dodson. He will en joy that.
He talked with me a lot today. He is starting to figure out that he has a room mate etc and is asking questions. I am encouraged.

Sunday visit
Sunday we went to see Gramps after lunch. Mom and Dad went, too. When we got there about 2:00 they were just sitting down for lunch. They were a little delayed in starting today b/c they ran out of bell peppers for the meatloaf and had to run to the store!
Here's a picture of everyone eating while the kids are playing in the living room and Mason was playing them some lunchtime tunes.
Gramps was eating well. He cleaned his plate and even had some honeydew melon afterwards. Today, they were all drinking Ensure w/ lunch.
Sunday is a BUSY day for visitors! Jim's wife was there and Fred's daughter, Donna. We met Frank's daughter, Mary Ann, today. Later we found out that her two sons were at Baylor the same time as me and D. Behind this picture you can see the view out to the patio/backyard area--pretty!!
I had to put a close up of Frank's face. He is always smiling just like this!! He is originally from Chicago and still has that classic Chicago accent.
Here's a picture of the three little dogs that are out there everyday. I'm not sure where they sleep, but they know not to come in the house.

Caregivers today were Anna and Carolyn. Anna is in this picture. Gramps had just gone to the bathroom and she was helping him back to the table. She is only there on the weekends...super super sweet girl.

We are so grateful that he seems to be content, at least for now. Everytime we get ready to go, he wants to know when we are coming back. Lunchtime!
Hi!
Davey and I went to see Gramps at noon today. They were just sitting down for lunch. Lori had been there all morning marking Gramps' laundry, etc. Darrel and Dad were there too.
Lunch was pot roast, veggies, rice, salad and bread. They had lemonade to drink and fig newtons for dessert. The caregiver today was Miriam and Areli (uh-ray-lee). Areli is the one with the little baby, Allison who is 11 months old. She is always there w/ Areli. She was napping for most of the time that I was there. I think she was playing in the exersaucer before that. She's very cute.
In the picture, Gramps is sitting on the far end, then going clockwise is Ms. Gerry, Areli, Frank, Jim & Fred is next to Gramps. That Gerry can talk! She's hilarious b/c most of what she says is a hodge-podge of different thoughts going through her head. She's very sweet. Frank (his back is to the picture) is 97 years old! He has a huge smile! He's has some problems w/ his esophogus or something, so all of his food has to be pureed. He's always smiling! Jim is probably the most handicapped right now. They said he arrived the day before Gramps and had been in a nursing home where he had just been drugged up all the time and he slept constantly. They think he might improve some once all the drugs get out of his system. Fred (Gramps' roommate) seems very intelligent. Dad said he was an engineer.
Areli said Gramps had eaten a good breakfast that morning of oatmeal, eggs, toast, fruit and coffee. He can eat!
He really seemed content while we were there (about 1 hour and 15 min or so). When I said goodbye, I told him that we would be back and he asked "Cuando?" (that's "when" in spanish)! The two Spanish ladies working there think it's funny when Gramps speaks Spanish! So, he really loves having visitors!
My kids love the place. There are little dogs and cats there and a tree swing. There is also a trampoline out back, but I'm not sure if the kids can jump on it or not. In the picture, you can see Davey to the far left on the piano. He was "playing" them all a few tunes while they were eating. Mason played for them yesterday.
Anyway, just wanted to give you an update. I won't be able to go tomorrow, but we will be going on Sunday. I thought about starting a blog just for Gramps to post pictures and give updates. Not sure if y'all would rather me just send updates and pictures through the email. Let me know what you think.
I'm so happy that Gramps seems to be doing well. He still has a lot of adjusting to do (it's only his second day!), but I'm grateful for where he is and for those that are caring for him. Thanks to Lori and Darrel for coming by and whoever else might have come by later in the day.

Please go by and see Gramps when you can, but keep in mind that it is going to take some time for him to adjust to his new surroundings and get settled. I had a hard time convincing him this afternoon that I do not live in Corpus, but I am sure he will come around.
I plan to stop by to see him tomorrow.

Gramps Moves In!

Hi everyone,
Gramps got moved in today pretty smoothly. Big thanks to Bill and Darrel for driving him down. They stopped in Terrell and had a nice lunch and arrived at his new home at about 2:00 this afternoon.
After a little trouble getting out of the SUV, he met Miriam, the director. They had storms last night and the power had been off all day, but it came on after about 10 minutes. He met Nubia & Carolyn, two of the caregivers. He also met his roommate, Fred and two other residents, Frank & Gerry. Later, Susan, a nurse from Trinity Home Care came by.
Overall, it went fine. He seemed to good with everything. It is a GREAT place. The people are so sweet and caring. I know he is in good hands. He was napping when I left. Bill, Gayle & Dave-O were talking w/ the nurse trying to sort out all of his meds.
